In this Kōrigasane combination, the outer layer is Torinoko, a very pale yellow with a faint grey nuance, paired with white to create a subtle shift of tone.

Torinoko was often used for usuyō paper in classical correspondence. In Sagoromo Monogatari, a letter written on layered pale paper is described as being attached to a bamboo branch frozen beneath deep snow.
