He started out as a residential carpenter, then worked as a shrine carpenter for temples and shrines before going independent and presenting his Ittobori carving works in 2022. All of his works are carved using the Ittobori technique to express the nature and expression of wood from every angle. You can sense both the organic shapes created by nature and the regular shapes created by human skill.
Humans often make instantaneous visual judgments, but the works he creates have the effect of causing a glitch in that judgment. Your brain will go "huh?", and when you slowly check and find the answer, you'll be shocked to the point of getting goosebumps and lost for words.
The works in this exhibition were created by spending a lot of time observing the uncontrollable nature of objects (wood).
The creation of these large-scale works, which I have never presented before, was born out of a dialogue with objects that was based on long observation.
I would like all visitors to take their time to look at the works and appreciate the power of the materials and the techniques used in the works.
