SASHIKO HAKIMONO -Footwear and Sashiko-

These are custom footwear made by applying sashiko, a traditional Japanese hand-stitching technique, to modern footwear (sneakers and zori).
All items are hand-sewn using Japanese rags and vintage fabrics.
We choose the body from German trainers or NOVESTA dead stock sneakers and then apply sashiko stitching to it.
This will also be a special opportunity to order sashiko straps to go with the sandals and geta, which have been specially made for this event.

When cloth was still a valuable commodity, sashiko was practiced with the aim of using it for a long time and taking good care of it. It involved layering pieces of fabric and stitching them together up and down, repairing holes, and using them for farm work or to survive the winter.
As the fabric gets smaller, it continues to play a role. Even when it becomes a small scrap, it can be reused as a patch. The surface is uneven, giving it a different feel from modern materials.
Please try touching it with your hands and feel it for yourself.
