Gu Jianheng (Ko Kenryo)
Born in Kyoto in 1994 and raised in Shanghai. Graduated from the Contemporary Art and Photography course at Kyoto University of the Arts (formerly Kyoto University of Art and Design). Studied abroad at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts des Photography in Arles, France. Currently based in Kyoto.
He regards his physical sensations gained through movement as a field where landscapes accumulate, and uses photography extensively as a device to transform and reconstruct the information collected from there.By using his unique method of weaving time and space, he focuses on the unknown contexts that lie behind the information.
His major solo exhibitions include "A PART OF THERE IS HERE" at YUKIKOMIZUTANI GALLERY (Tokyo), "15972 Sampling" at SFERA (Kyoto) and "Utopia" at GALLERY WATER (Tokyo) at TOKYOGRAPHIE 2018, "Wu-Mai" at Wacoal Study Hall Kyoto Gallery (Kyoto), and "Utopia" at Former Junpu Elementary School (Kyoto). His major awards include the Grand Prix at the KG + Award 2018 and the Grand Prix at the sanwacompany Art Award / Art in the House 2019.
